Religious Delegation in an effort to bring GSP+ back to SL
An inter Religious Delegation consisting of venerable representatives of all different religions is conducting a four destinations tour in an official move in a bid to win support to convince the European Union to change its stance on the awarding of GSP+ concessions to Sri Lanka.

The initiative is in expectance to attain support for the upcoming EU Council to be held in Brussels.

The delegation comprising of Ven. Bellanwila Wimalaratana Nayaka Thero, Chief Incumbent of the Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya, Ven. Kamburugamuwe Vajira Thero, Rt. Rev. Malcom Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo, Hindu Vidyanith Brahmasri Kuhananda Sarma, Alhaj Moulavi Viyas Mohamed J.P., Coordinator of Muslim Affairs to the President and Rev. Fr. Damian Fernando arrived in Rome this Tuesday (Nov. 3).

The official tour to the destinations of Rome, Belgium, France and the United Kingdom will conclude with the discussions of the respective foreign Ministers, of options and details on the trading facilities granted by the EU and the present situation of the overall stance of Sri Lankan Government.

The delegation met Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Secretary of State and Foreign Minister of the Holy See in Rome yesterday.  They withheld a private audience today with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, followed by a meeting with Italian Foreign Affairs Minister Franco Frattini.
