1000000 Signatures for Fonseka
Sri Lanka’s main opposition party the UNP has organised an island wide Rally to collect 1000 000 signatures from the masses in support to free former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka through a public petition.

The UNP  will handover the petition to the UN General Assembly.

Opposition leader Ranil Wickramasinghe says “Our country has signed the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which is a part of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Under these agreements the government cannot take action against Sarath Fonseka though they have done so. We will contest this with the support of the people,” addressing the media.

The campaign starts off from the Colombo Mayor’s residence. Deputy Genral Secretary of the UNP Dr. Jayalath Jayawardane coordinates the campaign.
