UN extends suppotive hand to SL PDF Print E-mail
Sri Lankan representative of the UN Neil Buhne, who went to New York recently after being summoned by the UN Gen secretary after the fast un to death launched by Minister Wimal Weerawansa, came back to Sri Lanka yesterday and has informed the foreign affairs ministry that the UN is hoping work closely with the Sri Lankan govt as before.

Mr. Neil Buhne, while stating that Sri Lanka maintains good relations with the UN as a member state, added that the stance of the UN on the Expert Panel appointed by the UN Gen Secretary on Sri Lanka remains unchanged. He also said that the UN appointed this committee not to conduct any investigations on anyone on war crimes in Sri Lanka, but for the sole purpose of advising the gen secretary about Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile a spokesman of the foreign affairs ministry said that the foreign Minister has also told Neil Buhne that the stance of Sri Lanka on this panel as well, has not changed.
