Hindus shocked about peninsula road expansion PDF Print E-mail
Hindus in area and Hindu cultural organizations are shocked and surprised about plans to demolish around 27 Hindu temples and ancient cultural monuments due to road expansion program, Jaffna-Kankesanthurai.

Many condemnations voices are being emerging against destruction pointing out that cultural symbols of Tamils should not be demolished under the guise of development process.

Government has entrusted a Chinese Organization to reconstruct four major road stretches in the Peninsula. Local contractors were overlooked and a Chinese Organization was selected to under take this process. This has created many questions and doubts among Hindus.

All Ceylon Hindu Federation (ACHF) has taken steps to prevent demolishment of twenty seven Hindu Kovils and cultural monuments under the developing process of Peninsula – KKS main road. As a result ACHF has met the Governor of Northern Province Major General G. A. Chandrasiri and has requested them to take alternative measures to prevent such demolition.

Neither a Tamil Ministers nor a Tamil Parliamentarian has spoken regarding this matter so far. Those who state that they are the main source for all developments of North and East seems to be keeping silent now.

Even though there are nine Tamil MPs representing Peninsula, not one of them paying any attention to these plans. Many Hindus in the area feels that those who identify themselves as shepherds of Tamils are blind now. This has made Tamil people disapointed about their political representitives.
