Toronto Marks the 62nd Independence day of Sri Lanka PDF Print E-mail
Marking the 62nd Independence Day celebrations in Sri Lanka, world wide foreign nations commemorated the event with wishes, congratulatory notes and adjoining festivities held at their destinations.

Prominent among the oversea festivities is the notable speech of acknowledgement delivered at the Ontario Science Center on February 4th by Bandula Jayasekara the Consul General for Sri Lanka in Toronto.

He insisted the foremost importance of the event is to pay that unfathomable gratitude towards all heroes of the war who sacrificed their lives, limbs and eyes to finally achieve that unmarred vision of freedom reserved from us for the last 3 decades.

Reminding President Rajapaksha’s words on May last year, Mr.Jayasekara declared it as the right moment to be proud of the Motherland when the true leadership turned the defeatist attitudes to winning moments. He stated that as a proud representative of the Government of Sri Lanka, he could well and truly declare this moment as Freedom; the Independence. A tribute was paid to President Mahinda Rajapaksha for his non withstanding stance amidst foreign influence to eliminate terrorism in Sri Lanka.

Bandula Jayasekara as a forefront leader in Toronto for exposing the LTTE movements at a region branded for their heavy activisms in sympathy with the Tamil Tigers did an admirable job of carrying the Message of the Government of Sri Lanka towards the Sri Lankan Diaspora in Canada. His activities to reveal the underhand LTTE movements were at times quoted with unceremonious malevolence by LTTE sympathizers at Toronto.

In ending, the Consular General thanked all Canadian Sri Lankan Diaspora for their support, constructive criticism and encouragement when Sri Lanka faced the difficult times.
