According to a senior Army officer USA and EU nations are avoiding to extend invitations for Sri Lanka Commando Units and Special Task Force officers for further training.
He said this was clearly noticeable because of the lack of response to
the letters sent by the Government and the delayed invitations for Sri
Lanka on the special warfare training exercises.
This is due to the white flag allegations raised by the former army chief General Sarath Fonseka.
Several European countries which used to invite the Sri Lankan military
for training had now snubbed the island nation as a result of the
allegations allegedly raised by the former military chief.
General Fonseka was quoted in the weekend newspaper “Sunday Leader”
prior to the recent Presidential elections as saying some senior LTTE
officials were killed by the military despite surrendering with white
flags.
A day after the publication, the General however rejected ever making
such claims in the interview and threatened to sue the newspaper over
the report which he has not done yet due to pressure from UNP.
