General & Admiral both demands Rs. 500 Mil. PDF Print E-mail
In two separate issues the former Army Chief General Sarath Fonseka and the former Navy Chief Wasatha Karannagoda have taken steps to send letters of demand to their counter party.

Lawyers representing Presidential common candidate General Sarath Fonseka has filed a law suit amounting to Rs. 50 Million against a Sunday English newspaper for publishing an article that brought a bad reputation on his character.

Presidential candidate Fonseka has sent a letter demanding the editor of Sunday Leader Fredrika Janz to correct the news item they carried on the 13th December, claiming that it has caused immense damage to his image.

Former Navy Chief, Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda has sent a letter of demand to presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka demanding rupees 500 million for making statement at an interview with Sirasa TV, a private TV channel in Sri Lanka on the 24th of December.

In the letter of demand sent to Gen. Fonseka, the former admiral Karannagoda claims the remark made by Fonseka about the admiral was malicious. According to the former Navy Chief the statement made by General Fonseka is per se defamatory of him. It has in fact tarnished his good name, reputation and public image, thereby causing him irreparable loss and damage.

The admiral has informed the demanded sum of Rs. 500 million should be paid within 14 days and in the event of failing and/or neglecting to pay and settle the said sum legal action will be instituted against General Fonseka to recover the said sum.
