450 000 want to vote by post PDF Print E-mail
According to the election office has received up to 4, 50,000 postal vote applications, which is the highest ever made for a presidential election in Sri Lanka.

Though time limit for IDPs to register for the upcoming presidential election has expired last Thursday, only a small number of IDPs registered for the voting, says Department of Elections. While 200, 000 registration is expected as per voter list-2008 only 22,000 registered up to 24th December, said an official attached to Department of Elections.

Meanwhile CAFEE spokesman Rajith Keerthi Thennakon said that the dead line for registration as voters of IDPs was the 24th of Dec. and out of them, only 10% get registered. He emphasized that Election Commissioner should implement a special program for facilitating the rest to get their opportunity to vote.
