Gvt agrees that SF was misquoted says Opposition PDF Print E-mail
Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights Ranjiva Wijesingha has reportedly written to the UN of further unnecessity for inquiries due to the corrections published by the Sunday Leader of misquotation on the controversial news item regarding the statement of Sarath Fonseka. Common Candidate media Unit emphasized on the quoted text in the report made by Professor Ranjiva Wijesingha which assured the UN of no substantiality in the said news item.

In the aftermath of the news article which resulted in an explosion of speculations and opinions, Sarath Fonseka refused allegations aroused by the news item of any war crimes occurred in the army, stating his statement has been ‘misquoted and misinterpreted’. However the Government is still raising their voices over betrayal of the country and treachery in army secrets which resulted with the publication in Sunday Leader newspaper.

Spokespersons for Common Candidate Media Unit says “The Government is seemingly taking advantage for their election campaign on a statement proved mistaken. They are relying heavily on a proved misquotation for degrading and publicizing false allegations against Sarath Fonseka while accepting the occurrence of a mistake themselves.”
