77,811 Families displaces in Batti PDF Print E-mail
The floods caused by heavy rain fall have made 292, 591 persons of 77, 811 families in Batticaloa district to get displaced says Assistant District Secretary V. Vasudevan. He also says 91 houses have got destroyed completely in the floods while another 1020 houses have got partially damaged. The displaced are in temporary camps where they are now given cooked food. From the day before yesterday to lat morning 11.1 mm rain fall was experienced in the area. GA has ordered the officials to help the displaced get enough facilities.

The Govt. has taken steps to provide financial aid for the flood victims and for those who met death due to floods. Director of National Disaster Relief Service Centre Mr. Sarath Perera said that the Govt. has given Rs.150, 000/= for dry rations while Rs.350, 000/= for cooked food for refugees in Trincomalee through Divisional Secretaries. He added that they gave Rs.15, 000/= for those who met death due to floods. Moreover, they have sent 100 tents for IDPs in Batticaloa. He emphasized that they would allocate money for the damages caused to houses as soon as they get the estimate of damages caused. He added they will provide financial aid to the other districts as well according to requisitions of Divisional Secretaries.
