Why is Somawanse quiet about Wijeweera’s killing when Ranil was in Power? PDF Print E-mail
“Although Gen. Sarath Fonseka has the ability to make false statements about Defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse issuing orders to kill LTTE cadres that surrendered with white flags, whey can’t Somawansa Amarasinghe say something about how Ranil Wickramasinghe led UNP govt assassinated Rohana Wijeweera after he surrendered?” NFF leader Wimal Weerawansa raised these thoughts at a press conference yesterday in Colombo.
Weerawanse said the following.
Gen Fonseka created a big controversy by claiming that Defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse ordered Brig. Shavendra De Silva of the 58th brigade to kill LTTE leaders that came with white flags to surrender. Everyone knows this is not true because after the victory he made a totally different statement in Ambalangoda. Whey is he making these allegations now? According to internal law you can’t kill anyone coming to surrender with white flags. So is the general trying to say that the defence secretary and Brig. Shavendra De Silva violated these laws? He has promised to increase govt workers pay by Rs 10,000/= a month if he comes to power and we all know this is an election promise. But can the Sunday Leader statement too be taken as an election promise? No. What is coming now is a contract given by the international forces. They have now appointed a witness of their own who would testify the things they want. These forces have realized that the best way to make war crime allegations against Gotabhaya to stick is to use someone who was in the battle field with him and today Sarath Fonseka has become their pawn”.
