Gen. Fonseka has committed the greatest betrayal to the nation and troops - Mahinda Samarasinghe PDF Print E-mail
Mahinda Samarasinghe minister for Human Rights and Disaster Management Minister, today described a statement given in an interview by retired Gen.Sarath Fonseka to a leading Sri Lankan Weekend paper, the greatest betrayal based on the untruth, ever made in the history of Sri Lanka.

Ret. Gen. Fonseka claimed that Defence Secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa ordered then Brigadier Shavindra Silva to execute the killing of  LTTE frontliners, Pulidevan and Nadesan who had reportedly surrendered with white flags in hand.

Addressing a media briefing at the Media Centre for National Security, Minister Samarsinghe read out a statement made by Gen.Sarath Fonseka on July 10 2009 at a felicitation ceremony held for Fonseka at the Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda.

On that occation the General had said that the Army never killed any terrorist leader who surrendered with white flags in their hands.

"These two statements of Gen.Fonseka are contradicting each other", claimed the minister for Human Rights and Disaster Management.
The minister further said, it is been studied at present to whether to take any legal action against the weekend paper.

According to Minister Samarasinghe Ret. Gen. Fonseka, has not only betrayed the nation, but the very Army that he led at that time and added the country had persons of that caliber recorded in the history who betrayed the nation with such a statement.

Minister Samarasinghe is the opinion that Fonseka had made that statement for political gain as a candidate and the contents were malicious though concocted.
