TNA hails GOSL PDF Print E-mail
In what was widely seen as a new political development, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) yesterday commended in Parliament efforts by Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa and Resettlement Minister Rishard Bathiudeen in resettling displaced civilians in the North.

Speaking during the debate on the Vote on Account, TNA MP N. Srikantha said it would be politically hypocritical for his party not to praise the efforts by these two members in the resettlement process.

Sri Kanthan, TNA MP said TNA will not join with any political front which involves in political power contest. We understand that around 100, 000 displaced people are resettled. Basil Rajapakse, MP and Minister, Rizad Badiuddeen are seriously involved in resettlement program. We wish to pay our thanks and tribute to them. Govt. pays Rs. 25,000 as relief payment and immediate cash Rs. 5000 to resettling people. We request the Govt. to increase the relief payment to Rs. 50, 000. We also urge the Govt. to resettle the remaining IDPs very soon.

All concerned parties should extend their helping hands to this effort. Varied arrangements are taking place over the proposed elections. TNA will not join hand with any political front which involves in power grabbing contest. We had enough experience over such competitive political fighting. We will work as neutral force and we will urge the Govt. and opposition to resolve the Tamil issue, he added.
