Tourism Minister Nandana Gunatilaka along with Kamal Deshapriya Mannapperuma one of the founding members of Wimal Weerawansa led National Freedom Front (NFF) resigned from all their posts and responsibilities held in the party a short while ago.
Forwarding a letter to inform their resignation Nandana Gunatilake and Kamal Deshapriya said that Party leader Wimal Weerawansa has been issuing pro- Mahinda Rajapaksa statements and holding press briefings to give his own ideas against the will and policies of the Party. Both Nandana and Kamal have informed the election Commissioner about their resignation in writing.
Kamal Deshapriya though his resignation was made officially only today was staying out of NFF party activities quite sometime while Minister Gunatilaka too stayed away from Party activities. Both of them were not seen in any of political rallies held in the recent past in any provincial council elections where NFF members contested.
The NFF was formed on May 14 in 2008 in Colombo after a group of 12 broke away from JVP heavily criticizing the JVP leadership. Gunatilaka was the general secretary of the NFF and Kamal was the national Organiser.
