“I never said that I’ll come into Politics”- Gen. Fonseka PDF Print E-mail
Today’s “Irida Diveine” reports that Gen. Sarath Fonseka has given an exclusive statement to their paper last Friday 16th, by phone.

In this interview the General has confirmed to reporter Norman Palihawadana, that he has not told anyone that he is going to take into politics, and that he will continue to serve in his position as the Chief of Defence Staff.

Following is the full interview given to the Sinhala paper “Irida Diveine”:

Diveine: There is lot of talk about you these days. Is there any truth about you coming in to politics?

Gen: Who says that? I have not told that to anyone.

Diveine: Then why has such a notion spread?

Gen: From where did they come? I don’t know who said that.

Diveine: Well, if that is the case, why did you say at the Army's sixtieth anniversary celebrations that it might be the last speech that you are delivering, dressed in a forces uniform?

Gen: As the army commander I have spoken to them regularly. Now I am not in that position. I am also not ready to answer these questions of the media.

Diveine: There is a rumor that you are planning to go overseas, is that correct?

Gen:  No.
