More Indian support for northern rehabilitation PDF Print E-mail
Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kour, who is currently in Sri Lanka attending the 8th Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Ministerial meeting, confirmed that India will provide timely assistance to the IDPs in Vavuniya.

She reiterated Indian Government’s willingness to provide further humanitarian assistance in specific areas upon request.

Minister Kaur said that she was aware of the difficulties and agreed to discuss the possibility of increasing assistance to Sri Lanka. She was specially referring to the offer of assistance for rebuilding the Duraiappa Stadium and establishing a cultural centre in Jaffna.

Welcoming the Indian State Minister, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama detailed the action taken by the Government of Sri Lanka in resettling the IDPs and explained the difficulties that the Government encountered. Demining work carried out by the Sri Lanka Army and the Indian Demining team was progressing expeditiously and more assistance would be required to complete this process.
