IDP Situation not so bad Indian MP Aaron PDF Print E-mail
Visiting Indian parliamentarian group member J.M.Aaron, says the IDPs in the camps in the North did not seem to have been suffering as the Indian media have been reporting.

He said this at a media briefing held in the hill country, following a tour of the tea estate in the region invited by Ceylon Workers Congress.

The Indian team of parliamentarians visited the IDP Camps in the North on the invitation of the Sri Lankan Government. After finishing their tour to the IDP camps in the north, they visited other areas where Tamil people live to see the Internally Displaced People.

Speaking to the press the Indian MP said that they had observed IDP inmates facing some difficulties obtaining drinking water and vegetables for their needs; but the district secretary of Vavuniya had promised to take steps to solve the problem, at their request.

Mr. Aaron said they would submit a report on their tour to the Indian Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi and the leader of the Indira Congress Sonia Gandhi. They also intended to make a request to the GOSL to speed up the resettlement of the IDPs. He further said that Rs. 8 billion had already been given to provide relief to the IDPs, and that he continues to extend his support to the Sri Lankan Government in this matter.

The Sri Lankan Air Force flu the Indian delegation led by DML MP T.R.Balu in a special helicopter to the Norwood Stadium where they were received by senior leaders of the CWC and citizens of Hatton Town.

The Indian delegation was given a warm welcome by the Sinhala and Tamil business community in Hatton; they visited the Thondaman Vocational Training Centre in Hatton and the Sports Club in Kotagala. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi was also in the tour. But she refused to give any comments or Interviews to the press.
