The former Chief Minister of Southern Province Shan Vijayalal De Silva has received the highest number of preferential votes in all three districts at the Southern Provincial Council elections held Saturday.
Former Chief Minister contested under the UPFA banner has obtained 90,294 preferential votes in the Galle District.
the second place have been secured by R. Gamage also from the UPFA list with 77,418 votes and the man who made lot of noise and said that he will be the chief minister either hook of by crook, Nishantha Muthuhettigame came third with a total number of 71,718 votes in the Galle district.
Former Mihin Air Chief Sajin Vaas Gunawardena who eyed for the chief minister post in the southern province has been put to fourth place by the voters in the south giving him 70,628 votes in the Galle district preferential votes list.
Actress and TV narrator Anarkalli Akarsha who contested on the UPFA ticket challenging candidates with much more experience from the same party managed to get elected to the Southern Provincial Council with 26,726 votes.
From the Opposition UNP, Nishantha Pushpakumara got the highest with 52,371 votes and Manusha Nanayakkara took the second place 38,477 votes in Galle district.
UPFA candidate Hemal Gunasekara from Matara got the highest preferential in the Matara district with 63,323 votes and Sarath Yapa Abeywardena secured the second place with 45,882 votes.
For the UNP, it was Buddika Pathirana who topped with 57,802 votes in Matara district preferential votes list.
From Hambantota district. K. Indika contesting on the UPFA ticket has obtained 56,855 Votes. The highest number of preferential votes in the district while D.V Upul coming to the second place with 50,944 votes.
From the UNP list Gamage Tennakoon took the most preferential votes in Hambantota district with 23,894 votes and Vimal Lal Chandra was second with 17,614 votes.
