10 MPs from the ruling alliance of India heading to Sri Lanka PDF Print E-mail
With the aim of seeing the conditions of the IDP Camps first hand, 10 MPs from the Indian ruling alliance are arriving in Sri Lanka today.

A member of the delegation Congress MP Sudarsana Natchiappan said “Our primary focus is to see how the internally displaced people are being maintained in the special camps in Sri Lanka and how the aid is being distributed to them," He added „this delegation is one of confidence building measures amongst the Sri Lankan Tamils, and the Indian and Sri Lankan governments.

MP Sudarsana Natchiappan said the invitation to the visit was extended by the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to visit Sri Lanka and see what progress has been done in relief operations.

In their 5 day visit in Sri Lanka, the Indian MPs will also meet district authorities and other Tamil leaders. They will submit a report to Chief Minister Karunanidhi on their return.

The other MPs' delegation are Kanimozhi, Karunanidhi's daughter, T.K.S. Elangovan, Helen Davidson and A.K.S. Vijayan from DMK party N.S.V. Chittan, J.M. Haroon, K.S. Azhagiri from the Congress Party and Thol Thirumavalavan from the VCK party.

But Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s daughter M. Karunanidhi and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi says the visit will not be a ‘guided tour’ of the Lankan camps and  said that she was confident that they would be taken to other parts of the camps that were not opened to others so far as well.
