Sri Lanka’s most innovative political party, the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) launched a massive petition campaign to create awareness of the US Government’s alleged Human Rights violations opposite the BMICH in Colombo.

Targeting the thousands of Sri Lankans visiting to witness the Sri Lankan Army’s 60th anniversary celebrations which is ongoing at the exhibition grounds at BMICH, the JHU hopes to get one million signatures in support of the appeal.

In a statement released by JHU it said “We intend to obtain one million signatures against the Human Rights violations blatantly carried out by the US,”

JHU Provincial Councilor Udaya Gammanpilla, Ven. Ranpathvila Wimalaratne, MP Ven. Athuraliye Rathana, and Media Secretary Nishantha Shri Warnasinghe were among the initial signatories of the petition. Whole of yesterday religious leaders, soldiers, and thousands of normal citizens who visited the army exhibition just stoped over to give their support to the signature campaign.

JHU says they wishes to draw attention to the human rights abuses that have been perpetrated and supported by the US in other counties all over the world.”
