Netherlands help to rehabilitate ex LTTE ers PDF Print E-mail
Sri Lankan ministry of Justice has seeked support from the Netherlands to rehabilitate former LTTE cadres.
Justice Minister Milinda Moragoda made the request when he met Netherlands Justice Minister Hirsch Ballin in Hague Netherlands. Mr. Moragoda had briefed his counterpart on the challenges Sri Lanka faced in the post-conflict period and discussed possible support from the Netherlands for the Ministry's programme through the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to rehabilitate former LTTE cadres," the ministry said.

This meeting was part of an initiative to establish close cooperation between the two countries in the spheres of justice and the judiciary and to develop a medium and long-term strategy in this regard. Sri Lanka and The Netherlands share a tradition of Roman Dutch Law.

A framework of cooperation between the two countries was discussed during the meeting of the two ministers. They agreed to pursue the possibility of establishing capacity-building and training for judges, prosecutors, prison officials, etc.
Minister Moragoda had similar dialogues with his counterpart, Justice Secretary Jack Straw from the British government when he was in London lately.
