Water Board to become a Company
The Trade Union federation of the National Water Supply and Drainage board says that arrangements are being made to convert the Water Board in to a limited liability company named Lanka Water Services Pvt Ltd.
According to a spokesman of the Union the feasibility study and project
proposal compiled in this regard by the Director Board is to be handed
over to the Minister soon. He also said that when such an attempt was
made previously the trade unions objected and Minister Dinesh
Gunawardena agreed to make some amendments to it but now it is being
implemented once again without these changes.
Gen secretary of the workers union of the Water board Upali Ratnayake
said that they have decided to take strong trade union to protest
against the decision not to grant them any annual bonus with the salary
this year. He also said that bonus should be paid to workers before the
25th of this month and if this does not happen about 8,000 workers of
the Board will go for a strike.
