The new constitutional amendments to the UNP were passed yesterday at the UNP Working Committee meeting, which also include the condition that the top most five positions of the party, including that of the leader, will have to be chosen by the working committee and the parliamentary group of the party. The elaborations in this regard went of for 4 hours under the leadership of Ranil Wickramasinghe at Sirikotha yesterday. This means the proposal made by Sajith Premadasa to give the opportunity to pradeshiya sabha and provincial council members of the UNP as well to vote have been rejected. The working committee also decided yesterday that if the Working committee or the Parliamentary group is not able to reach an agreement a secret ballot will be held in this regard at the Working committee.

The decisive annual convention of the UNP will be held on the 12th of December, decided the UNP working committee. Soon after the disciplinary committee on attack on UNP MP Range Bandara was tabled at the meeting, the situation got restless. They also decided not to attend the swearing in ceremony of the President where so much public funds are being wasted.
