5320 IDPS resettled back in their own Villages PDF Print E-mail
Another group of 5320 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the Vavuniya camps for the displaced were resettled in their villages of origin yesterday. This group from some 1000 families which included 845 Tamils and 155 Sinhalese families was resettled in 28 villages in Vavuniya at a ceremony attended by Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa and Minister Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan.

These villages were located in Settikulam, Vavuniya south, Mahamylankulam, Agbopura and Ranthethgama.

Steps have been taken to provide essential requirements to these families, such as kitchen utensils. The main ceremony was held at the Cultural Hall of the Vavuniya Urban Council. Deputy Highways Minister T.B. Ekanayake, Nations Building Minister S.M. Chandrasena, Northern Governor Major General G.A Chandrasiri, Vavuniya Government Agent S.M. Charles and several other military and government officials attended the event.
Government has been able to resettle over 34600 IDPs in their original villages in the past four months.
