50 Prison officers are questioned. PDF Print E-mail
The CID yesterday started questioning 50 prison officers who did not report to work on the day the prisoners attacked a police search party at the Welikada prison, which also includes some female officers.

Some of these officers have come to the prison that morning and turned back when they saw the police and there can be reasons to suspect their involvement, said a senior police official. The police are investigating whether they have applied for leave or brought medical certificates to justify their absence and the police are also checking on the calls they made through their hand phones on that day.

The Criminal Investigations Dept investigating the attack handed over their initial report to acting IGP N.K. Ilangakoon. This report is based on statements taken and investigations made so far.
When contacted the acting IGP said that this report is not enough to reach any conclusions and anything can only be said after receiving the final report.
