The Sri Lanka embassy in France is planning to take diplomatic measures against the proposed construction of a statue of LTTE political wing leader Tamilchelvan who was killed by an air force attack.
The embassy is also planning to start a special discussion in this
regard with the French govt.
There have been reports even in French media about some pro Tamil
factions in France trying to put up a statue of Tamilchelvan and the Sri
Lanka embassy sources said that they are highly concerned about these
reports and they consider it their duty to prevent it from happening.
A spokesman of the Ministry said that the Sri Lankan ambassador in
France Mr. Lionel Fernando has already conveyed the protest of the Sri
Lankan govt in this regard to the French govt and the Foreign Ministry
is also taking steps to bring this issue to the notice of the French
ambassador in Colombo. The foreign ministry learnt of this effort by the
Tiger sympathizers in France last week.
