Tigers have destroyed all Land records in the North PDF Print E-mail
LTTE has confiscated large number of title of deeds which were preserved at land registry offices, Jaffna, Mannar, Vavuniya, Kilinochchi and Mullaithivu and destroyed, says Defence Ministry.   Neither GA nor the land registry officials serving at that time have informed the Govt., it is alleged. Lands belonging to these titles of deeds were distributed among families of Tiger loyalists. Meanwhile, many traders who were LTTE supporters were made ownerships to these lands.

The defence ministry has launched an investigation in to the destruction of many records of land deeds that were in the Land Registry offices in Kilinochchi, Mulaitivu, Jaffna, Vavuniya and Mannar.

It was also learnt that the govt land officers serving in these areas at that time have also not informed the govt about it. This land afterwards was given to the families of dead Tiger terrorists and some businessmen who helped the Tigers.

This situation came to light when Sri Lankans residing in Canada, Britain and Germany returned to the country and inspected their lands, says the Defence Ministry further.
